View of the far wall in the George V Conference hall. Bespoke wallpaper of a tropical mountainous vista stretches across the panelling, frieze and ceiling coffers

The Bloomsbury

Hotels
Situated in the heart of Bloomsbury in London, this famous hotel is where the Queen first learnt to swim.

Working closely with the client we were tasked with creating a bespoke wallpaper to fully wrap the Lutyens designed George V function room. The design was a unique challenge as it needed to flow seamlessly from the wall panels through the ornate frieze and into the many ceiling coffers.

Our inspiration for the design was King George V’s love of travel. With this in mind we created a horizon of distant mountains and shore lines populated with creatures and plants from all corners of the globe. In the foreground we used a trellis detail entwined with hand-painted roses through which the distant vistas are glimpsed. Exotic birds race across the ceiling with clouds lazily drifting from one coffer to the next.
